Description

  1. The course is taught interactively. No death by PowerPoint. Students will learn hands-on via teams, a half day release planning simulation, discussions, numerous exercises and fun.
  2. Experience. I have 3 years experience as a fulltime ScrumMaster, and another 3 coaching at the best agile coaching organizations in the nation, Rally and BigVisible. Uniquely qualified in Southern California.
  3. Get what you pay for - the instructor. I'm local. If you need help, or have a question, I'll respond. Heck, I might even see you at the local user groups. :-)

This short video reveals some of how and why my workshops stand out from traditional Scrum classes.

"How do I write good user stories?"

"How do I break down my 2 month feature into two week chunks?"

"How do I prioritize which is most important of my dozens of requests?"

"What are the daily tasks and responsibilities of the Product Owner?"

Lead by a Pragmatic Marketing Certified agile trainer and coach who has helped product owners at Yahoo, Kaiser Permenente, eBay, Technicolor, ServiceNow and numerous start-ups, this course is personal, interactive and high energy. No death by PowerPoint. You will learn the way people learn best - via teamwork, discussion, interaction and exercises. Class feedback has been more than 9.5 on a scale of 1 to 10.

And as a Orange County trainer and coach, I am always available for follow-up questions, feedback, or other needs that come up.

From an agile coach: "When my ScrumMaster told me he wanted to take a CSM class, from what I know about you and your classes, I thought you were likely to focus on servant leadership more than other trainers, so I sent him your way. He came by my desk this morning ecstatic about his experience and the impression you left on him! Sounds like the slide-less format is being well received. I'm happy to hear you're experimenting with alternative teaching styles and holding classes that push the boundaries of a typical class experience! Really great work you're doing."

This two-day Product Owner certification course provides everything you need to get started as the business point person using Scrum with a team. You may be a product manager, project manager, business analyst or other subject matter expert (SME), but no matter the role, you know you are the voice of the customer - the one specifying what team should build, the vision, roadmap and priorities for the team and deciding on the feature, cost, and quality tradeoffs. Scrum will enable the business to see working demo's every one to four weeks, as well as empower frequent releases to production and draw the team closer to the business value goals of product itself.

The largest and fastest-growing Agile project management methodology, Scrum is a simple framework that has a small set of interrelated practices and rules, is not overly prescriptive and enables more effective teams almost immediately.

This course shares industry-tested practices for evolving Product Backlogs, planning your Releases and Sprints, tracking and reporting progress, and developing continuous improvement cycles. Participants will learn the how and why of Scrum and agile, how to effectively participate in the Sprint Planning Meetings, Demo/Reviews, Retrospectives, the 15 minute daily stand-up, and more. You'll get some tools to help collaboratively prioritize features with the team, as well as some insights from Lean Start-up on how to leverage the build-measure-learn cycle, book-ending these features and ideas with your hypothesis and results-measurement.

Previous attenee: "Just wanted to say thanks again for running this 2 day class. I've learned a great deal from you and you are one heck of an instructor. I will definitely recommend you to some of my colleagues. :-)

Upon completion of the course and a post-course online evaluation, participants are registered as Certified Scrum Product Owners. Registration includes a two-year membership in the Scrum Alliance, (www.scrumalliance.org), which has a wealth of Scrum and agile material and community information available.
